Never-seen-before market opens up for punters for Origin Game One

Australian betting companies have opened up a new market for punters, taking bets on how many times Channel Nine commentators will drop Johnathan Thurston and Billy Slater into conversation, despite the fact they’re not even playing.

The decision comes after every old codger at Channel Nine were quoted saying “boys, the Maroons are gonna miss Thurston and Slater this week.”

One online betting company have given the odds of 1.10 for Thurston to be mentioned more times than Jarryd Hayne touching the ball.

The company’s CEO says the market provides punters with an incentive to actually listen to the commentary.

“With the amount of shit Rabs [Ray Warren] and Gus [Phil Gould] talk, it’s likely some viewers will disengage with the game and hence our current markets,” he said.

“This new initiative will help combat this.”

Companies have also released new player markets, ‘Andrew Fifita to cheap shot a poor bloke and cause a brawl’, ‘Mitchell Pearce to have a shocker’ and ‘Cooper Cronk’s nose to become even more bent’ — which bookies recommend are delivering great odds.
